In the art of bad jokes, there are many levels. If you want to become a dad joke master, you must accomplish and complete all of the levels that will take you to the point of eye-rolling for anyone who hears your jokes. Level 1, puns. The art of understanding the English language so much that you can bend it and transform it into an unrequested stand-up comedy piece. Add some rhyming into the mix, why not? It works even better if you treat the whole thing as a personal record situation. The more puns you can get after someone’s sentence, the better. Be advised that others will try to take your place.

Level two consists of a much more sophisticated version of the pun game. The dad joke. It not only includes a clever and wise use of words and their meaning, sometimes even sounds and pronunciation, like I said, but now you have to add a setup so that the joke can have a flawless conclusion. The more unexpected, the better. Pro tip: you can measure your success by looking around the room after making a perfect delivery, to see how many people are rolling their eyes and looking at you with a really straight face. No worries, this means you’ve knocked it out of the park. For some reason, people are actually laughing. I’m sorry to tell you you’ve taken a whole different route of comedy, and half the world disapproves.

Finally, we make it to level three. The ultimate bad comedy challenge: literal comedy. It might look like the easiest one. Take a picture, describe what’s happening in the picture, call it a day. On that, you would be mistaken. The art relies on choosing the best possible comedic image to deliver flawlessly. I suggest a common phrase, or a usual saying, turned into a very literal description. The more bling logic you can use, the better. This is the level at which you can finally use all the silliness you try to keep away during the week. By all means, go crazy.
